ACTUATORS FOR VALVES
ProMetal A/S is able to supply pneumatic, electro-hydraulic and hydraulic actuators for valves
An actuator is a kind of motor mounted at the valve to give more power to run the valve and bring it into the wanted position. The method of operating the valve has always been a significant part of the valve itself. In recent years, the need of automating the valves has been increasing. At the same time, the fully computerized process system has been developed, which has made the actuator to an integrated part of automatic operated valves.
There might be different reasons to choose to equip a valve with an actuator. This could be to achieve greater safety and reliability, the need of being able to control the process, or due to requirements of an emergency stop or safety against errors. Another reason might be an inaccessible or remote valve, or because greater power is needed to operate the valve.
Hydraulic, pneumatic or electric actuator?
A hydraulic valve actuator converts a fluid pressure to a linear or rotating motion, so that it generates power to run the valves. This is the kind of actuator that is used in nuclear power plants and dams where large amounts of water create the electricity.
A pneumatic valve actuator, on the other hand, uses the pressure from air or gas to create a rotating or linear motion that regulates the valve.
An electric valve actuator uses electricity to create and regulate the desired flow.
The pneumatic actuators are available in 3 designs:
- Piston
- Diagrahm
- Stepping
The hydraulic actuators are available as:
- Ringmain or self-contained
- Conventional or solar powered
- Linear or semi rotary
